RJ-45 vs RJ-11

RJ-45 VS RJ-11

Introduction

RJ-11 and RJ-45 are commonly used for communication cable or connector. A device or part that allows electrical equipment to connect to another piece.

Uses

  • RJ-11 is mostly used for connecting a telephone to a computer.
  • RJ-45 is only used for computing.

Differences

  • RJ-45 and RJ-11 are different in many things. They are: -
  • RJ-11 have four wires.
  • RJ-11 have width of approximately 12.4mm and a height of around 11.68mm.
  •  RJ-45 have eight wires
  •  RJ-45 9.65mm Wide x 6.6mm High,

Advantages of RJ-45
  • RJ11 connectors can support a bandwidth of around 24 Mbps.
  • RJ11 connectors are commonly used for low-speed data transfer.
  • It is cheap and reliable.
  • RJ11 connectors are 4P4C wiring standards, meaning they have six positions with four conductors.
  • RJ11 connectors can be used to connect voice or data devices to a central router or modem, especially in small sized networks.
  • RJ11 splitters can connect multiple devices, such as a phone and a modem, to one phone line.

Disadvantages of RJ-11 and RJ-45

  • Using an RJ11 connector on an Ethernet port can cause slow data transfer.
  • Using an RJ45 connector on a telephone line can cause noise interference or permanent damage to your phone system. RJ45 connectors are more flexible than RJ11.
